11.03.09 | Credit Card Debt Solution

Posted in Credit, Credit Cards by Little Miss Platinum

debt consolidationCredit card debt is at an all time high with millions of Americans drowning in that deep sea of plastic. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could just mold your credit cards into a frisbee and toss your troubles away?  That sounds like heaven to me.  Unfortunately, however,  life is not that easy.  Our actions hold consequences, but there are options for those out there who are struggling to stay above water with their credit card payments.  Let’s outline a game plan to help get you out of that plastic sea and back on shore.

For those with solid credit: If you have good credit but are burdened with huge monthly payments than you may want to apply for a Discover More Card.  You can transfer over your balance from cards with high interest rates. There is a 0% APR for up to 12 months on balance transfers, then a low 11% APR thereafter.

When getting a new credit card is not an option: If transferring the balance on some or all of your credit cards is not a possibility because of your credit, but you have a lot of credit card debt, you should apply for credit card consolidation.  In some cases you can stretch out your payments for 72 months making your monthly payment more manageable.

Consolidating more than just credit cards: If you have other unsecured debt besides credit cards, (car loans, home loan, etc), and want to consolidate all of it, you should use a debt consultation service. This is for individuals who have a minimum of $10,000 of debt.

Credit card debit is a crisis and it’s just pulling people into a bigger hole, as millions of Americans continue to swipe their credit card daily. Why spend the money you don’t have? I am being taught by my parents that if you want to purchase an item really bad, your going to have to save up the money in order to purchase instead of using a credit card and getting yourself into debt.

I always have done my best to budget myself so that I don’t need to use my credit card. So far it’s worked out pretty well, just making sure that I don’t put anymore on it in a month then I make extra after rent and groceries are bought, I’m hoping to imporove my credit score in the near futrue so that I can get a low interest loan for a new car and since I’m not paying back student loans yet I don’t have a credit score.

The problem with credit card debt is to be blamed on the customers and the credit card salesman They are both at equal fault. The customer has no discipline when it comes to their spending habits. Yet, all the credit card salesman cares about is handing out these credit ruining cards. They do not explain in detail the fixed rates or what happens when it comes to pay your bill. He just cares about making a customer into money. So please beware people out there looking for a new credit card. At all cost save your credit card for emergencies.

Credit is just a nother way for some company to finacially capitalize on people. that is what is wrong with a capitalistic sosciety. It is ok to ruin peoples lives by getting them into debt as percentage rates keep them in debt, making the company as much money as posible at the expense of peoples quality of life, but some one will go to jail for smoking weed. it is just backwards to me.

I enjoyed the bit on credit card consolidation and spreading out the amount over a longer period onto one card. Many people use several cards thinking its a better way to go and can have more maximum lines of credits per card. However, what usually happens is the interest rates are sooooo highhhh… that they fall short. A few times of falling short..Hence, bad credit. It is a downward spiral from there. Thank Plantium Card for the information> Hopefully the people with hundreads of cards will use your theory on credit consolidation and lessen the burdeon of debt.

From experience stop using your credit cards and pay more than the minimum payment. I payed my payment and whatever that month’s interest would be. When you get something paid off, include that monthly payment (that you are already used to paying) along with your regular payment on another bill. You would be suprised how quickly that snowball effect will help you get out of debt.

I find that, in America, it is very important that people stop focusing on what they could have but rather focus on what they do have: namely, friends and family. When a person has an attitude towards acquiring new earthly goods, it is only natural that they find themselves in massive amounts of debt. One must realize that they can not buy everything they think they want and, further, that they don’t really want these things in the first place.

Credit card consolidation is a good way to help you if you have huge payments, but it should not be used as a way to get more credit cards or start buying more things. The whole point is to get what you have paid for and not add more on.

  704. Carmen says

Credit cards in general are a bad idea. People just should not spend the money that they don’t have. Also, bankers/loan officers should not give out money that they know their clients can pay back just because they are self-ish and looking for the profit for themselves. They are a big reason as to why our economy went into a recession.

    November 4th, 2009 | #

  705. Karissa says

The best way to make sure you don’t amass credit card debt is to not get in debt at all! or at least very little debt. Once you have to pay off a debt it just grows and grows.

    November 4th, 2009 | #

  706. alex brannon says

Just as Renita says, transferring credit would cause a tremendous increase in your OVERALL payment because of interest rates. People need to learn not to get into credit card debt in the first place; people just want things when they want it, and never seem to have the patience to earn what they are buying. It is because of this that our economy is in the state it is today.

Transferring the balance may seem like a good idea but Discover Card can be ruthless with their interest rates. The 12 months are a gimmick/trap because no one ever pays off their balance within a year. They are designed to keep you in debt for years.
