11.03.09 | Credit Card Debt Solution

debt consolidationCredit card debt is at an all time high with millions of Americans drowning in that deep sea of plastic. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could just mold your credit cards into a frisbee and toss your troubles away?  That sounds like heaven to me.  Unfortunately, however,  life is not that easy.  Our actions hold consequences, but there are options for those out there who are struggling to stay above water with their credit card payments.  Let’s outline a game plan to help get you out of that plastic sea and back on shore.

For those with solid credit: If you have good credit but are burdened with huge monthly payments than you may want to apply for a Discover More Card.  You can transfer over your balance from cards with high interest rates. There is a 0% APR for up to 12 months on balance transfers, then a low 11% APR thereafter.

When getting a new credit card is not an option: If transferring the balance on some or all of your credit cards is not a possibility because of your credit, but you have a lot of credit card debt, you should apply for credit card consolidation.  In some cases you can stretch out your payments for 72 months making your monthly payment more manageable.

Consolidating more than just credit cards: If you have other unsecured debt besides credit cards, (car loans, home loan, etc), and want to consolidate all of it, you should use a debt consultation service. This is for individuals who have a minimum of $10,000 of debt.

Credit Card debt binds you down. It is better to only spend money on what you need and use it wisely. If you do have to go into debt because of a car or a house, you should try and pay for as much as you can and then pay it off as soon as you can.

  8. Renita says

Transferring the balance may seem like a good idea but Discover Card can be ruthless with their interest rates. The 12 months are a gimmick/trap because no one ever pays off their balance within a year. They are designed to keep you in debt for years.

Credit cards can be a bad thing because they can put people in debt if they don’t pay them off. If the credit cards don’t get paid off. The interest rates go up and then will go into debt more.

  20. alex brannon says

Just as Renita says, transferring credit would cause a tremendous increase in your OVERALL payment because of interest rates. People need to learn not to get into credit card debt in the first place; people just want things when they want it, and never seem to have the patience to earn what they are buying. It is because of this that our economy is in the state it is today.

  21. Karissa says

The best way to make sure you don’t amass credit card debt is to not get in debt at all! or at least very little debt. Once you have to pay off a debt it just grows and grows.

    November 4th, 2009 | #

  22. Carmen says

Credit cards in general are a bad idea. People just should not spend the money that they don’t have. Also, bankers/loan officers should not give out money that they know their clients can pay back just because they are self-ish and looking for the profit for themselves. They are a big reason as to why our economy went into a recession.

Credit card consolidation is a good way to help you if you have huge payments, but it should not be used as a way to get more credit cards or start buying more things. The whole point is to get what you have paid for and not add more on.

I find that, in America, it is very important that people stop focusing on what they could have but rather focus on what they do have: namely, friends and family. When a person has an attitude towards acquiring new earthly goods, it is only natural that they find themselves in massive amounts of debt. One must realize that they can not buy everything they think they want and, further, that they don’t really want these things in the first place.
